The 29-year-old Arshad Nadeem narrowly secured his place in the finals by just 22 centimeters, leaving the crowd both cheering and gasping as his javelin landed well beyond the yellow qualifying line set at 84.50 meters.
Despite undergoing surgery this June to address a persistent calf injury, Arshad spent weeks in rehab in London before returning to Lahore to prepare for the World Championships.
Throughout his career, Arshad has struggled with injuries, but few knew that he was competing with a calf injury during last year’s Paris Olympics, where he famously won the gold medal, cementing his place among the world’s elite athletes.
Earlier, Arshad’s rival, India’s Neeraj Chopra, secured his place in the finals with a strong first throw of 84.85 meters and promptly exited the track after qualifying.
