Apple is set to launch a new hypertension detection feature on its Apple Watch next week, following recent clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to Bloomberg News.
The update marks Apple’s latest step in transforming its smartwatch into a comprehensive health and wellness tool.
Unveiled earlier this week, the new feature will alert users to potential high blood pressure, helping them monitor cardiovascular health in real time. This addition is part of the Apple Watch Series 11, which also includes a new Sleep Score system that rates sleep quality on a scale from 0 to 100.
“With advanced sensors and cutting-edge design, Apple Watch is empowering millions to take control of their health just by wearing it,” said Stan Ng, Apple’s VP of Apple Watch and Health Product Marketing. “It’s not just a timepiece — it’s a fitness coach, health monitor, and personal assistant in one.”
The rollout comes amid growing competition in the wearable space. Rivals like Samsung, Google, and Oura are also expanding their health features — Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8, for instance, includes a skin-based antioxidant index.
