Pakistan’s love affair with cricket is one for the ages. Cricket received more love in Pakistan than the national sport – Hockey. Pakistan has always been the most talented cricketing country in the world. The country has consistently produced world-class batsmen, fast bowlers, spinners, and all-rounders. From Abdul Hafeez Kardar (Pakistan’s first captain) to today’s successor Babar Azam, Almighty Allah has blessed Pakistan with amazing talent.
Cricketers like Fazal Mahmood, Saeed Anwar, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younus, Imran Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfraz Ahmed, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Amir, Saeed Ajmal have made Pakistan proud in the cricketing world.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Younis Khan, Pakistan’s most successful batsman, to hone the national team’s batting skills for the upcoming tour of England. A batsman of technical proficiency and immense class, Younis Khan stood as the pillar of Pakistan’s batting line-up for over a decade. He’s the only batsman to have aggregated more than 10,000 Test runs for Pakistan and leads the century-makers list with 34 triple-digit scores.
Younis had an excellent conversion rate in red-ball cricket (34 hundred and 33 fifties) and was an integral member of the Misbah-led side that had climbed to the No.1 spot in the Test rankings in August 2016. The credit for Pakistan’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2009 also goes to Younis Khan.
Apart from producing talented batsmen, the Pakistan cricket team has always been facing difficulties in terms of batting. The trend of having foreign coaches in Pakistan was increased in the past few years. However, the cricket board has taken a major step by giving responsibility to the most successful batsman of Pakistan for the upcoming tour of England.
Younis’ work ethic, commitment to match preparation, game awareness, and tactics in the English conditions will be invaluable. He is a role model to a number of current players and is hugely respected. The squad will benefit from the immense value that he will bring, both on and off the field.
Younis Khan’s presence will let batsmen learn the art of playing spin. He can help players in the fielding department overall; it is a great chance for players to learn as much as they can. Younis Khan rejoining the national team will bring happiness to both cricket players and spectators.
