KARACHI: Controversial cleric Mufti Abdul Qavi is in the news again after his indecent video went viral on social media.
In the video, Abdul Qavi is seen recording himself with his mobile phone which was said to be ‘confiscated’ by his uncle after his previous stint. Abdul Qavi appears to record the video for someone as he is seen without clothes.
Abdul Qavi then proceeds to lie down on what seems like a bed while murmuring something during his inappropriate actions. After recording a few glimpses of himself. Qavi then concludes the video after giving his trademark ‘bosa’ (Kiss).
The family of the controversial cleric had disassociated themselves from him and has stripped him of the ‘mufti’ title, claiming that he is suffering from a mental illness.
According to Qavi’s family, he was hospitalized in a mental institution because his thoughts were not in control. In a press conference, Qavi’s uncle Wahid Nadeem announced that the cleric has been isolated in his house.
“Abdul Qavi has been used by different people over the years for media attention,” the uncle said, referring to the recent controversies that the cleric had embroiled himself in. Nadeem said that Qavi shouldn’t be addressed as a ‘mufti’ because he brought shame to the family. “We have seized his mobile phones and now he is under treatment for mental illness he is suffering from,” he added.
