The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration Circle has apprehended Amjad Ali, a prominent human smuggler, at Islamabad Airport. Ali, who had been on the FIA’s red list for 17 years, was arrested after evading capture since 2007. He was wanted for visa fraud and had fled the country, leading to his placement on a stop list. Ali, a resident of Gujjar Khan, has been transferred to the Rawalpindi Anti-Human Trafficking Circle for further investigation.
In a separate operation, FIA officials in Faisalabad arrested Ghulam Dastgir, a key figure in an international human smuggling network. Dastgir was involved in illegally trafficking Pakistani citizens to Europe via sea routes, primarily from Libya to Italy and Greece. His arrest followed the capture of his accomplice, Abdul Rehman, whose information helped lead authorities to Dastgir. Together, they defrauded seven victims out of 27.3 million rupees by promising them a passage to Europe.
Authorities have seized critical evidence from the suspects’ phones, including communication with victims and other agents, as well as financial transaction records. The FIA is continuing its investigation with further raids to apprehend additional members of the smuggling ring.
The Director of the FIA Faisalabad Zone stressed that a special crackdown is in progress against individuals involved in the recent Greece boat tragedy. Special teams are working to arrest those responsible for endangering lives, and they will face strict legal consequences.
