ISLAMABAD: The government on Saturday announced that all educational institutes in districts with low COVID-19 positivity ratios will reopen Monday, June 7.
The National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) in the statement said educational institutes in districts where the ratio was less than 5% could reopen on June 7.
According to data released by the NCOC, the country reported a positivity rate of 3.81% today. Pakistan reported an overall coronavirus positivity ratio below 4% for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday.
Education Minister Punjab Murad Raas has also announced that all private and public schools in the province would reopen from June 7, in a staggered manner.
According to a notification from the school education department, the following conditions will be “implemented strictly” Only 50% of students shall attend classes on a given day and students shall attend the school for two consecutive days.
All concerned authorities shall ensure observance and compliance of COVID-19 SOPs in letter and spirit. The decision according to the notification was taken in line with the recommendations of the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) that took place a day ago.
The country recorded 1,923 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 930,511. It also reported 83 fatalities after which the death toll hit 21,189. In addition to this, 860,385 people have recovered from the virus in the country so far, with active cases recorded at 48,937.
Earlier, in April, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood had announced to cancel all exams in the country till June 15. The only exception was granted to A2 students, who wanted to appear for the purpose of applying to foreign universities.
At the time, the minister had tweeted that the decision had been taken to address the “health concerns of students and parents”. “All exams cancelled till June 15 and depending on the spread of the disease may even go further,” he had tweeted.
