KARACHI: The investigation into the alleged disappearance of a newborn at a private hospital in Nazimabad has taken a new turn, with police recording statements from the woman’s husband, doctors and hospital staff.
According to police, the investigation committee summoned the woman’s husband, the lady doctor who performed the operation and other employees present at the time of the alleged delivery to Nazimabad police station.
Their statements were recorded late at night as investigators sought to determine whether a child was delivered at the facility.
Hospital Records and CCTV Footage Seized
Police said the hospital administration claims that the child was not born during the procedure. On technical grounds, the committee has taken custody of CCTV footage and computerized hospital records for examination.
Investigators are also reviewing the affected woman’s data, including her medical history and treatment records. Other hospital employees may be summoned if required.
Family Provides Pregnancy Documents
Meanwhile, sources said hospital documents indicate that the newborn was born alive and that doctors had recorded the woman as being 40 weeks pregnant. The family has reportedly submitted these documents to the medical committee.
The hospital administration, however, maintains that the woman was not pregnant.
The case emerged after the family alleged that the woman underwent regular check-ups, ultrasounds and medical tests at the hospital throughout her pregnancy.
Following the operation on her expected delivery date, the family was allegedly informed that no baby had been born. Police had earlier sought medical assistance and begun reviewing hospital evidence. Further legal action will follow the medical committee’s findings and the Medical-Legal Officer’s report.
