KARACHI: In order to continue illegal construction amid lockdown, the land mafia has started selling construction materials in the black market.
According to details, the land mafia has illegally occupied a park in Karachi’s Nazimabad area, named ‘Arshad Zaki Park’, in a bid to sell construction materials.
Sources revealed that land mafia has occupied the park under the supervision of elected representatives of UC-48, area police station and officials of Gardens Municipality Central. Gravel and bricks are being sold from the illegally occupied location amid lockdown.
Sources further revealed that authorities are planning to construct a building on the occupied park. In this regard, authorities have planned to put the park in the ‘China Cutting’ list.
According to the inhabitants of the area, the park is also used for Eid prayers. However, vice chairman of UC-48, Tabish Gilani has given permission for selling construction materials at the spot.
Earlier on April 19, taking the notice of reports regarding illegal construction published on MM News, Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) had initiated severe action against illegal constructions in Karachi.
According to sources, the SBCA teams conducted major operations in various parts of the metropolis against builders, who were allegedly involved in illegal construction despite COVID-19 lockdown.
