Islamabad: A high-level delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will arrive in Pakistan today.
According to sources, the delegation will be led by the IMF Director for the Middle East and Central Asian Jihad. It will also include the fund’s mission head Ernesto Ramirez Rigo in Pakistan and will remain until 20th September.
The delegation will be visiting Pakistan to discuss fiscal issues with special focus to restrict the target of primary deficit within the desired limits.
The officials of the ministry of finance and IMF will review the reasons behind the collection of Rs580 billion in pursuance of the tax target of Rs648 billion.
The delegation is expected to meet with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Advisor to the Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and other federal and provincial officials.
A delegation of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance is also included in the delegation’s schedule, while the implementation of the goals set by the IMF will be reviewed during the meetings.
Sources said the meetings would discuss the overall economic situation, tax receipts, and budget deficits.
Sources further said that circular debt, privatization issues of the government institutions operating in the deficit will also come to light.
