Give Fawad Alam a chance

I will be patient. I will work hard. I will face all troubles that come my way. One day I will be seen playing for Pakistan again. I have never lost hope. If I am selected still I feel I am being denied.

When will Fawad Alam’s stars shine bright and he will get his rightful place? When will he finally be given an opportunity? Cricket fans are really dejected over this omission.

Test cricket returned to the nation after ten years. Fawad Alam was given a surprise recall to the squad against the visiting Sri Lankan team. The 34-year-old batsman had been missing from international cricket since the last decade. Fawad played his last match for the national team in 2009, and despite his brilliant performance on the domestic front, he had been unable to find a place in the team ever since.

It was the year 2009 when Fawad Alam played his first Test match against Sri Lanka, scored a century on his debut Test match, and setting a ray of hope that he had a bright career ahead of him. But just three matches later, he was discarded and kept away from international cricket. Despite the adversity, he never lost hope and continued to show his brilliance in first-class cricket.

Whether it is the Quaid-e-Azam trophy or any other domestic tournament, Fawad had silenced his critics with his brilliant performance. In the last season, he struck four centuries and scored 781 runs. His average remains 56.84 this season, which is one of the highest in the world.

Fawad Alam was recalled to the national squad at the ripe age of 34, but still expectations were high from him. He was being compared to Misbah-ul-Haq upon being recalled. The head coach and chief selector said that Fawad’s selection was not just based on his performance since the past one year but rather he has been consistently playing exceptionally well domestically.

But still Fawad Alam was not in the playing eleven, leaving cricket fans wondering when their favourite player will once again be seen on the grounds.
