LAHORE: The Accountability court has approved a 14-day physical remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
Yousaf Abbas, a cousin of Maryam Nawaz who was also arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) the same day, was produced before the court alongside the PML-N leader and was also remanded into the accountability custody for 14 days.
Maryam Nawaz had appeared before an accountability court today in connection with the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. Both Maryam and Yousaf have been ordered to appear before the court on 18 September.
On the occasion of hearing, the passionate PML-N workers broke the admin court’s door and tried to enter the premises.
Previously, NAB prosecutor had submitted a report in the court and told that Saeed Saif Bin Jabbar Asadi had transferred 94 lac shares to Maryam Nawaz in 2008 whereas she further transferred 70 lac shares to Yousaf Abbas in 2019.
On 8th August, NAB team had detained Maryam Nawaz outside the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore for skipping appearance in Chaudhry Sugar Mills due to meeting with her father and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
She was unable to provide the required details of foreign investment in sugar mills while she was also failed to satisfy the bureau regarding the source of income for purchasing the shares.
According to NAB, three foreigners transferred 11000 shares worth millions of rupees on Maryam Nawaz’s name.
