TORONTO: Pakistani actress Meera was reportedly stopped at the Canadian border, questioned for several hours and sent back to the United States, according to local media reports. She was travelling from New York to attend an event when Canadian immigration officials allegedly stopped her near Niagara Falls.
Reports said Meera was denied entry into Canada. However, the authorities have not disclosed the reasons for the reported decision, and the actress has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
The incident has been linked in some reports to Meera’s previous visit to Calgary, where she allegedly performed on stage while promoting her film Psycho. Some reports suggest that issues involving a work permit or performance authorisation may have played a role, although this claim has not been independently verified.
Meera has also reportedly faced immigration difficulties in the United Kingdom in the past. According to reports, she was subject to a UK entry ban lasting approximately 10 years. Her family reportedly attributed the case to a misunderstanding during an immigration interview.
Subsequent reports also referred to difficulties in obtaining a UK visa and an application to visit her sister, who was suffering from cancer.
Meera is also reported to hold a US Green Card. However, the actual reason for the reported denial of entry into Canada remains unclear, and neither the relevant authorities nor the actress has officially confirmed the incident.
