LAHORE: Lahore police have intensified their crackdown on crimes against women and children, arresting two suspects in separate incidents involving an alleged assault on a woman and the sexual abuse of two minor girls.
The arrests were made by the Shadbagh and Misri Shah police following special directives from the Deputy Inspector General (Operations).
According to Shadbagh police, a suspect identified as Sahil, along with several accomplices, allegedly assaulted a woman in a street. The woman sustained serious facial injuries during the attack. Police responded promptly after receiving information about the incident and arrested the main suspect, while efforts are underway to apprehend his alleged accomplices.
In a separate incident in the Misri Shah area, police arrested Ahmed Mahmood, who is accused of sexually abusing two sisters, aged one-and-a-half and five years.
Police said the suspect allegedly targeted the two minor girls while they were in a street and subjected them to inappropriate acts.
City Superintendent of Police Arshad Hayat Kanju said cases have been registered against both suspects under relevant legal provisions and formal investigations are underway.
The senior police officer praised the Shadbagh and Misri Shah station house officers and their teams for taking swift action.
He said individuals involved in violence against women and children or the sexual exploitation of minors would not be given any concession and would be dealt with strictly according to law.
The police official further stated that all possible measures would be taken to ensure that those involved in such serious offences are brought to justice.
