ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s political and security situation has once again come into focus as a high-level emergency meeting is expected to be held at the President’s House tonight to review the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari during the meeting.
Ahead of the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held an important meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during which the premier was briefed on the country’s overall political situation, particularly the security challenges and growing incidents of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to sources, the prime minister and president are likely to discuss measures to address the situation in the province, with several key decisions expected during their meeting.
The high-level consultations are taking place at a time when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing serious security challenges, while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also prepared a strong protest strategy against the federal government.
The PTI leadership has maintained that measures such as Governor’s Rule or an emergency cannot resolve the security crisis in the province. The party’s announcements of nationwide protests and public gatherings have further heightened political tensions, prompting the government to consider its response.
