LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has paid the expenses incurred for the use of the government aircraft during her recent visit to London. According to sources, Maryam Nawaz paid the aviation expenses for the trip from her own pocket.
According to sources, the Punjab chief minister paid a total of Rs 27,194,004 to the Punjab government. The payment was made against the expenses incurred from the use of the government aircraft during her recent London visit.
Maryam Nawaz’s recent visit to London attracted attention after questions were raised over her use of the government aircraft. According to sources, Maryam Nawaz’s daughter, Mahnoor Safdar, completed her studies in Anthropology at SOAS University of London, and the Punjab chief minister travelled to London to attend her daughter’s graduation ceremony.
According to the report, Maryam Nawaz’s stay in London was brief and private in nature, and no formal political activities had been scheduled during the visit. She attended her daughter’s graduation ceremony and also held a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders based in the United Kingdom.
Clarification Over Use of Government Aircraft
After questions were raised over the use of the government aircraft for the Punjab chief minister’s London visit, Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb had clarified that Maryam Nawaz would bear the expenses of the London trip herself.
She had stated that the expenses related to the visit would have to be paid personally by the chief minister.
According to the payment details now available, Rs 27,194,004 were deposited with the Punjab government, clarifying the issue of expenses related to the use of the government aircraft.
Government Aircraft Had Been Under Discussion Earlier Too
It is also worth mentioning that the use and purchase of the Punjab government’s official aircraft had already been a subject of political discussion earlier this year.
In February 2026, questions were also raised by various political circles over the Punjab government’s purchase of a new aircraft. The issue generated discussion regarding the use of government resources and the purpose for which the aircraft had been acquired.
