Cape Town: At least 21 people have been killed and several others injured in a devastating multi-vehicle collision in South Africa’s Western Cape province.
The crash occurred on Sunday night on the N1 highway between Prince Albert and Leeu-Gamka. According to initial reports, two minibus taxis collided head-on before a third vehicle crashed into them. Several vehicles were badly damaged, leaving debris scattered across the road.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, and three seriously injured people were taken to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. In South Africa, speeding, driver fatigue, overcrowding and poor road conditions are among the factors often associated with serious road accidents.
Officials have also urged motorists to exercise extreme caution in foggy conditions, reduce their speed and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles because poor visibility can make roads particularly dangerous.
