Defence Minister Khawaja Asif is making headlines with the viral video comparing Pakistan’s progress with India’s. However, the clip has been declared fake and AI-generated, as Khawaja Asif did not actually make the remarks shown in that video.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday said the video of Khawaja Asif was doctored, with the audio generated using artificial intelligence (AI).

The ministry shared the video on X with the caption: “This news is FAKE and the voice in video is AI-generated.” The ministry added, “Please verify news from official sources before sharing.”

The minute-long doctored clip showed Asif appearing to speak during a press conference aired on a private news channel, but the ministry said the audio was AI-generated.

The fabricated video further showed Asif questioning whether Pakistan was truly a democracy and urging citizens to examine government policies rather than blaming others for the country’s problems. It ended with a question about who was responsible for bringing Pakistan to its current situation.

The video gained considerable traction on social media and was subsequently picked up by some Indian media outlets.

However, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a clarification, stating that the footage was fake and that the voice had been generated using artificial intelligence.

According to the preliminary report, the incident was not caused by an air-conditioner compressor explosion or an electrical short circuit. Instead, the fire reportedly broke out after a nebulizer attached to an incubator, used to monitor oxygen levels, exploded.
