A fire that broke out this morning at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad, the federal capital, claimed the lives of 15 newborn babies. A grieving mother has raised serious questions, alleging that the fire was deliberately set.

Speaking to the media, the affected mother said that this was not an accident but that the fire had been intentionally started. She questioned why PIMS staff had left after locking the nursery.

“Were the babies made to disappear or were they burned? This was done deliberately. Not even a single hair on any doctor was burned; only the babies were burned,” she alleged.

During the conversation, the mother said that none of the doctors, nurses, or other staff members suffered even a minor injury. She claimed that one of the hospital employees said, “We are saving the important people.”

She further alleged that rescue personnel arrived two hours later, while police reached the scene four hours after the incident. She also said that the Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner visited the site and later left.

The affected mother alleged that PIMS staff do not perform their duties unless they are paid.

It may be recalled that Professor Imran Sikandar, head of PIMS, had confirmed to the media that several newborn babies had died in the incident. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
