QUETTA: The Balochistan government has constituted a formal inquiry committee to investigate the alleged threats to Asma Jatak and the murder of her family members.
According to an official notification issued in this regard, the Commissioner Kalat Division has been appointed as Chairman of the inquiry committee. The committee will comprise Deputy Commissioner Hub, Deputy Commissioner Awaran, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Hub as members. SP Hub will also perform the duties of Secretary of the committee.
As per the notification, representatives of investigative agencies will also be part of the committee, which will review all aspects of the incident.
The terms of reference of the committee include investigating the alleged threats issued to Asma Jatak, the murder of her family, and other related matters. The committee has been directed to submit its report to the Balochistan government within 15 days.
The committee will conduct a detailed review of all facts, circumstances, and motives behind the incident, identify any negligence or omission, and determine those responsible in the light of the law and available evidence. It will also have the authority to obtain relevant records and documents if required.
It may be recalled that a woman resident of Khuzdar was allegedly abducted by an armed group referred to as “Death Squad” from Police Line Khuzdar on February 5, 2024, triggering protests and rallies across Balochistan.
A few days ago, Asma Jatak released a video holding the Holy Quran, appealing for protection of her and her family’s lives, after which her father was reportedly killed a few hours later.
