KARACHI: In yet another turning of events in the ongoing investigation into the death of 25-year-old entrepreneur and IBA graduate Mir Raza Ali, the Sindh Police high command has completely dissolved the existing investigation team following the receipt of damning initial re-autopsy findings and a formal petition expressing zero confidence by the family’s legal counsel.
A fresh five-member high-powered Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been constituted under DIG Crime and Investigation Aamir Farooqi to lead a fresh, transparent probe.
Confirming the development, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh and Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho stated that the previous team was formally removed after preliminary findings from the court-ordered exhumation disproved initial police claims.
A formal notification for the new committee will be issued probably today.
Re-Autopsy Findings Dismantle Suicide Narrative
The overhaul comes immediately after the newly restored eight-member medical board conducted the court-mandated grave exhumation and body sampling, uncovering physical evidence that directly contradicts early law enforcement claims.
Addressing the media alongside the grieving family, activist and lawyer Jibran Nasir revealed critical forensic details that shatter the initial police theory:
– Inverted Wound Trajectory: Medical observations established that the fatal bullet entered through the back/waist area and exited through the chest—making self-inflicted gunshot harm physically impossible.
– Signs of Physical Violence: The re-autopsy uncovered broken ribs, visible marks of severe trauma across the face, and an unidentified black substance on the body.
– Coercion Allegations: Jibran Nasir revealed that senior police officers—including the previous AIG and SSP—had made the grieving parents sit in police offices for hours, attempting to coerce them into accepting the death as a suicide.
“The preliminary findings prove our stand from day one. You cannot shoot yourself in the back,” Jibran Nasir stated to reporters, demanding strict accountability for police officers who pushed a false narrative.
“We expressed complete mistrust in the old team because they were actively trying to cover up a brutal murder. We are taking this fight for justice directly to the court,” he added.
Case Context & Escalating Momentum
It is pertinent to recall here that Mir Raza vanished from his PECHS residence on July 28, and his decomposed body was recovered two days later in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
While police initially leaned toward financial distress and crypto-trading losses to frame the case as a suicide, a series of investigative failures—including missing bullet casings, unexamined CCTV footage, an abruptly altered medical board, and a newly recovered audio clip regarding financial settlements—forced the courts to intervene.
With the original medical board taking DNA samples from both parents for cross-matching and a newly appointed JIT taking over the file, authorities have promised an uncompromised, top-tier criminal investigation.
