The Sindh government has restored the weekly Saturday holiday for all public and private schools across the province, reversing its earlier decision to implement a six-day academic week.
According to the Sindh Education Department, all educational institutions will now observe a five-day teaching week from Monday to Friday.
To compensate for the reduced number of school days, daily teaching hours will be extended by one hour to ensure academic activities continue effectively.
Officials said the decision was taken as part of the provincial government’s austerity measures and to ensure the efficient use of available resources.
The revised policy applies to all public and private educational institutions across Sindh.
The announcement comes just days after the provincial government had abolished the weekly Saturday holiday and directed all schools and colleges to operate six days a week from August 1, 2026, at the start of the 2026-27 academic year.
At the time, the Education Department had issued a notification restoring Saturday classes, and Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah had also said on social media that government schools would remain open on Saturdays.
The latest decision supersedes the earlier notification, reinstating Saturday as a weekly holiday while extending weekday school hours.
