KARACHI: The bustling metropolis of Karachi experienced a welcome respite from the sweltering heat last evening as rains swept across various parts of the city, bringing relief to its residents.
The much-awaited showers were recorded in multiple areas, including Manghopir, Gulshan Maymar, Gulshan Iqbal, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, and FB Area.
Additionally, rain was observed in Saddar, MA Jinnah Road, Defense, Shara Faisal, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, PECHS, Nursery, Chanesar Goth, Site Area, Movach Goth, Baldia, Jamshed Road, and Guru Mandir. The downpour also extended to Nooriabad and M-9 Kathor, marking a widespread weather shift.
Power Outages Reported
As the rains began, several areas in Karachi faced power outages, with Gulshan Maymar and Manghopir experiencing suspended electricity supply. Residents took to social media to report disruptions, urging authorities to restore services promptly.
Meteorological Department’s Forecast
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather system originating from the Kirthar mountain range has shifted towards Karachi, bringing strong winds and rainfall. The department also warned of dusty winds in the suburban areas of the city.
While the central parts of Karachi are expected to receive light rain, the overall system signals a significant change in the region’s weather pattern.
Sindh Government on High Alert
In light of the torrential rains forecasted across Sindh, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah issued a high alert for the province.
He directed local bodies, water boards, and district administrations to remain active around the clock, ensuring preparedness for potential flooding, drainage issues, and other rain-related challenges. The directive underscores the government’s commitment to mitigating risks and safeguarding citizens during the monsoon season.
