Pakistan has fully settled its outstanding financial obligations to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking a major step in its external debt management.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) confirmed that all deposits held with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development have now been repaid, totaling $3.45 billion, as the country continues to navigate its broader fiscal and external financing commitments under an IMF-backed program.

According to the central bank, “SBP repaid a deposit of $1 billion to the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), UAE, on April 23, 2026.”

The SBP added that $2.45 billion had already been repaid last week, bringing the total settlement to $3.45 billion and completing Pakistan’s repayment of all UAE deposits.

Earlier, the UAE had been renewing these deposits on an annual basis. However, last week Pakistan also repaid $2 billion, an SBP official confirmed to Business Recorder. “Pakistan has repaid $2 billion to the UAE,” said Noor Ahmed, spokesperson for the central bank.

Earlier this month, Pakistan also repaid a $1.43 billion Eurobond that matured on April 8, 2026.
