The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday began the new week on a positive note as the benchmark KSE-100 Index gained over 1,200 points ahead the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which will decide on $1 billion loan tranche for Pakistan.

At close, the benchmark index settled at 168,303.24, an increase of 1217.66 points, or 0.73%.

Buying interest was noted across major sectors, including cement, commercial banks, fertiliser, oil and gas exploration, OMCs, and power generation. Index-heavy stocks such as OGDC, POL, PPL, PSO, SNGPL, DGKC, HBL, MCB, and MEBL also traded in the green.

The upbeat start follows last week’s steady performance, during which the PSX continued its upward trajectory. By Friday’s close, the benchmark index had settled at 167,085.58 points, recording a 0.2% week-on-week gain.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee also appreciated slightly against the US dollar in early inter-bank trading. At 10am, the currency traded at 280.23, marking a gain of Rs0.19.
