The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday continued its downward trend, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index losing nearly 500 points.

At close, the benchmark index settled at 159,096.78, a decrease of 481.41 points or 0.3%.

Selling pressure dominated major sectors, including automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration, oil marketing companies (OMCs), refineries, and power generation. Heavyweight stocks such as ARL, HUBCO, MARI, OGDC, POL, PPL, PSO, MCB, MEBL, and NBP all closed in negative territory.

On Wednesday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a sharp decline as profit-taking and a lack of fresh market triggers dampened investor confidence. The benchmark KSE-100 Index dropped by 1,703.58 points, or 1.06%, settling at 159,578.19 points.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee showed a slight recovery against the US dollar, appreciating by 0.06% in early trade on Thursday. Around 10 a.m., the local currency was trading at 280.70 per dollar, up Re0.16 from the previous close.
