Serious questions arose regarding alleged irregularities and lack of transparency in contracts under the Pakistan Peoples Party’s flagship project, the Sindh Solar Energy Project. However, the Sindh government has, for now, rejected the impression of irregularities.
According to details, a recently aired private TV program, for the first time, brought to light key facts related to alleged irregularities in the Sindh Solar Project.
As per the TV report, the first phase of the World Bank–funded project worth 28 billion rupees included the distribution of 200,000 solar home systems.
The foreign company quoted the cost of each solar kit at USD 151, but import documents revealed that the actual price was less than USD 50, according to the report.
The foreign company was also supposed to import solar DC fans, but instead, the import documents were altered, and locally manufactured fans were distributed. Furthermore, alleged fake import documents were used to claim duties and taxes.
In this regard, speaking during the program, Provincial Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that no irregularities had occurred in the program, and relevant documents would be provided.
Regarding the import of fans, Nasir Shah stated that if forged documents were used to show false imports, the Sindh government would conduct an inquiry and bring the matter to light.
