Israel’s political and security cabinet has approved a plan to take control of Gaza City following air and ground assaults and the martyrdom of thousands of Palestinians.
According to the news agency Reuters, the announcement came just hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel intends to establish military control over the entire area.
In a statement, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said, “The Israeli army will prepare to take control of Gaza City, while humanitarian aid will be provided to the civilian population outside the combat zones.”
Gaza City, located in the north of the strip, is the largest city in the besieged territory.
The statement said that the majority of the political and security cabinet believes that “the alternative proposal presented to the cabinet would neither defeat Hamas nor lead to the return of hostages.”
Two official sources stated that any resolution by the security cabinet would require approval from the full cabinet, which may not come before Sunday.
Earlier, the Palestinian resistance group Hamas stated that war criminal Netanyahu is planning to continue the genocide and forced displacement of the Palestinian people in Gaza, while also condemning an interview given by the Israeli Prime Minister to the American media.
