Pakistan is expected to observe a public holiday on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in commemoration of Youm-e-Takbeer. While the official announcement has yet to be issued, it is anticipated in the final week of May.

Youm-e-Takbeer marks the anniversary of Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998. These tests established Pakistan as the seventh nuclear power globally and the first Muslim-majority nation to possess nuclear capability.

The day symbolizes the country’s strategic defense advancements and its commitment to maintaining deterrence for peaceful purposes.

The federal government has already released its schedule of public and optional holidays for 2025, which outlines official observances for Islamic festivals and religious events of minority communities. According to the 2025 holiday calendar, two public holidays are listed for the month of May—one of which is Labor Day on May 1.

The notification for Youm-e-Takbeer is expected to follow closer to the date.
