Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday, just days before the start of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
During the ceremony, the premier commended Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, as well as the contractors and workers for completing the stadium’s renovation in a record-breaking 117 days.
The revamped stadium now boasts enhanced facilities, including newly constructed hospitality boxes and upgraded amenities for both players and spectators. Additionally, around 10,000 new seats have been installed to increase the venue’s capacity.
As part of the event, the Pakistan cricket team’s official jersey for the upcoming eight-team Champions Trophy was unveiled.
The opening ceremony featured an array of entertainment, including music, dance, and a fireworks display, creating a memorable experience for fans who were granted free entry. The stadium gates, with the exception of the Imran Khan enclosure reserved for guests, were opened to the public at 5:30 PM.
The PCB also invited renowned singers Ali Zafar, Arif Lohar, and Aima Baig to entertain the audience with musical performances, followed by a spectacular drum and fireworks display. A unique light show added to the evening’s grandeur.
