Beware! Travelling on highways, motorways without M-Tag can land you in hot water

The National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) have announced an increase in toll rates for vehicles that do not possess the required M-Tag from today (February 1).

Commuters were encouraged to acquire the M-Tag at no cost by January 31 to avoid incurring extra fees.

Vehicles lacking the tag or with insufficient balance to incur a 25% surcharge on the standard toll fee, with a minimum charge of Rs50.

“In accordance with the authority granted under Section 10(2) vii of the NHA Act 1991, as amended in 2001, the National Highways Authority hereby informs the public that to enforce a 100% M-Tag Regime on all Motorways nationwide, vehicles without an M-Tag or with low balance/cash will be required to pay an additional toll of 25% on top of the original toll rate, with a minimum charge of Rs.50, effective from February 1, 2025,” stated the notification issued by the NHA Directorate of Revenue (Finance Wing).
