Pakistan was dismissed for just 154 runs in their first innings on the opening day of the second Test against the West Indies in Multan on Saturday. The visitors, batting first, had posted 163 runs, leaving Pakistan trailing by nine runs.
The innings began with the hosts facing early setbacks. Opening batsman Mohammad Hurraira was dismissed for just nine runs by pacer Kemar Roach, leaving Pakistan at 22/1 after 5.5 overs. In the seventh over, left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie struck, removing Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam for a mere one run. Pakistan found themselves under pressure at 25/3 after 7.3 overs when Shan Masood was dismissed for 15 runs by Roach.
Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel attempted to stabilize the innings, adding 26 runs together, but Motie returned to dismiss Ghulam for 16 runs, leaving Pakistan at 51/4 after 17 overs. By tea, Pakistan was at 70/4 in 22 overs, still trailing by 93 runs, with Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan at the crease, hoping to rebuild.
Earlier, Pakistan’s spinners dominated the West Indies’ first innings, bowling the visitors out for 163. Noman Ali was the standout performer, taking a remarkable six-wicket haul, including a historic hat-trick, making him the first-ever Pakistani spinner to achieve such a feat in Test cricket. Sajid Khan also contributed with two wickets, and Kashif Ali and Abrar Ahmed claimed one wicket each.
The day began with Pakistan’s debutant Kashif Ali dismissing Mikyle Louis early. Sajid Khan followed with two quick wickets, reducing the West Indies to 32/4. Noman Ali then took the spotlight, claiming three wickets in three consecutive balls, including a hat-trick, as the West Indies collapsed to 38/7.
Despite a valiant 68-run stand for the last wicket, the West Indies were bowled out for 163, with Noman finishing with six wickets.
