A petition has been submitted to the Lahore High Court, urging an immediate ban on YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok.
Filed by a citizen, Aslam, through Advocate Nadeem Sarwar, the case lists the federal government and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) as respondents, according to media reports.
The petitioner claims that platforms like YouTube are being misused, with numerous channels engaging in blackmail through the dissemination of immoral content. He further alleges that individuals upload such videos without requiring licenses, purely to gain views and earn money.
Moreover, the petition highlights concerns about the prevalence of fake videos on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. It alleges that vloggers often showcase women from their homes in videos, which the petitioner argues is detrimental to the family system.
The petition not only calls for the closure of these social media platforms but also demands the implementation of mandatory licensing for content creators.
