A local court has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for the 2019 murder of her husband, which she orchestrated with the help of an accomplice and staged as a suicide. The co-accused has been sentenced to death for his role in the crime, which involved strangulation and electrocution.
The additional district and sessions judge (West) found Asma and her accomplice, Ghulam Nabi alias Deedar, guilty of killing Shah Zaman at their residence, located within the jurisdiction of the Peerabad police station, in 2019.
The court said that the accused failed to prove their defense, while the prosecution successfully presented evidence, including testimonies from eyewitnesses who were present when the murder took place. The judge highlighted that the victim died instantly after being electrocuted by the co-accused.
The court also ordered both defendants to pay Rs 500,000 each as compensation to the deceased’s legal heirs.
In its detailed ruling, the court included the wife’s confessional statement made before the magistrate. She admitted that she wanted to eliminate her husband and saw no other option but to kill him. She enlisted the help of the co-accused, who provided sleeping pills. On the night of the incident, she mixed the pills into her husband’s milk, and once he fell asleep, she called the co-accused. He arrived, then used a wire to electrocute and strangle the victim.
