A relentless cold wave gripped the region on Thursday, with snowfall in Murree and light drizzles in parts of Rawalpindi and Islamabad intensifying the chill.
According to the Met Office, temperatures in the twin cities are expected to plunge to 0°C or -1°C this week. Over the past three days, temperatures have already reached the freezing point, and the cold wave is forecast to strengthen further.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that a further temperature drop is expected today, with sub-zero readings being typical for winter in the Potohar region, especially in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is set to experience cold and dry weather in the coming days. The upper districts of the province will face harsh cold conditions, while fog is predicted to blanket the plains.
Cities such as Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, and Charsadda are expected to experience persistent fog, with Swabi and Dera Ismail Khan also likely to be affected.
In Peshawar, the minimum temperature has been recorded at 1°C, with highs anticipated to reach 23°C. Upper areas will bear the brunt of the cold, with Kalam and Dir reporting temperatures as low as -4°C.
