A lieutenant colonel was among six soldiers who embraced martyrdom during a gun battle with terrorists in North Waziristan’s Spinwam area, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.
In a statement, the military’s media wing said that the exchange of fire between the two sides took place on the night between October 4 and 5, during which “six Khwarij” were also killed.
According to ISPR, the brave soldiers were engaged in a clearance operation when they came under heavy fire as a result Lt Col Muhammad Ali Shaukat and five soldiers of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom.
Lt. Col. Muhammad Ali Shaukat, aged 43, hailed from Faisalabad. He leaves behind his wife and three sons.
Along with him, Lance Naik Muhammad Ullah from Khyber, Lance Naik Akhtar Zaman from Lakki Marwat, Lance Naik Shahid Ullah from Tank, Lance Naik Yousaf Ali from Lower Orakzai, and Sepoy Jameel Ahmad from Swat also embraced martyrdom.
According to the ISPR, all the fallen soldiers had served the nation with valor. Lance Naik Muhammad Ullah had completed 13 years of service, while Akhtar Zaman had served for 10 years.
The ISPR reiterated the military’s determination to continue operations until terrorism is eradicated. “The sacrifices of these brave soldiers strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR said.
