The ongoing awareness campaign against Independent Power Producers (IPPs) across the country has borne fruit, as the Energy Planning Commission has initiated efforts to reduce expenses.
Sources within the Energy Division have disclosed that an emergency plan targeting IPPs is now underway. This plan includes measures to cut costs in various ministries.
A recently published report indicates that the provision of free electricity to all institutions is being reconsidered. This includes ending the free electricity benefit for judges and members of parliament.
In a subsequent phase, the provision of free petrol is also expected to be terminated. The performance of NEPRA and OGRA will be evaluated, and there is a proposal to reduce MDI (Maximum Demand Indicator) charges for factories.
Sources further revealed that only legitimate facilities will be provided to the industry and businesses, ensuring a fair and balanced approach to resource allocation.
Furthermore, the ministry has decided to review the performance of regulatory bodies, including the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), to ensure efficiency and accountability in their operations.
