Plot
The protagonist, Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja, is a barber operating out of a shop in Pallikaranai, Chennai. His days are filled with work and caring for his daughter Jyothi, played by Sachana Namidass. When his dustbin, affectionately named Lakshmi, is stolen, his ordinary life takes an unexpected turn. The local police mock him and refuse to register a formal complaint about the missing dustbin.

Despite not being taken seriously by the authorities, Maharaja is determined to get his dustbin back. He bribes the police with Rs 5 lakh, prompting them to take action. They enlist their informant to find the dustbin, but complications arise as hidden secrets come to light. The movie revolves around this quest to find the dustbin and unveils Maharaja’s past along the way.

“Maharaja” has shattered box office records, grossing over Rs 107 crore, making it the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 in India. Internationally, it became the top Tamil grosser in the USA and crossed the $1 million mark in Malaysia and the Gulf. Following its successful theatrical run, “Maharaja” premiered on Netflix on July 12.
