ISLAMABAD: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Friday issued a warning of heatwaves in Punjab during this month.
After the warning, the authority urges the public to adopt precautionary measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the anticipated increase in heat intensity.
Pakistan ranks among the top 10 countries most vulnerable to climate change globally. In recent years, South Asian nations have grappled with unpredictable weather patterns, including erratic rainfall, flooding, and heatwaves, resulting in the loss of numerous lives.
PDMA reports that temperatures are expected to surpass the average recorded over the last 30 years. Particularly, the plain areas of the province, notably major cities, are anticipated to face heatwaves during this month.
Additionally, the department predicts the occurrence of strong winds, dust storms, torrential rain, and hail across the province in April.
PDMA Punjab Director-General Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed the local administration to remain vigilant regarding seasonal fluctuations, according to the statement.
“The rescue organizations and district administration should prepare promptly,” the statement emphasizes. “Furthermore, citizens should be informed about weather changes and advised on precautionary measures,” it added.
