Two officers Major Jawad and Captain Sagheer embraced martyrdom in Kohlu blast: ISPR

KOHLU: Two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred in a blast in Balochistan’s Kohlu on Friday, the military’s media wing said.

“Based on credible intelligence, a sanitization operation was initiated on Feb 10 in the Kohlu area of Balochistan to deny terrorists any liberty of action,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

During the ensuing sanitization of the area, the ISPR said, an IED exploded close to the leading party.

“Resultantly, two officers — identified as Major Jawad and Captain Sagheer — embraced martyrdom and laid their lives in defense of the motherland against an externally perpetrated threat.”

The ISPR said that a sanitisation operation is under way in the area to apprehend perpetrators and enemies of peace.

“Such cowardly acts by inimical elements cannot sabotage the hard-earned peace and prosperity in Balochistan. Security Forces are determined to neutralise their nefarious designs even at the cost of blood and lives,” the statement concluded.

An emergency has been imposed at the medical facility, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Asghar Murri said.

All the medical staff, doctors and paramedics have been alerted, he added.

Today’s attack in Balochistan was the most recent in a string that has increased since the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) revoked their 2021 ceasefire agreement with the government.

A report claims that January was the worst month since 2018 with 134 fatalities (a 139% increase) and 254 injuries from at least 44 extremist strikes around the country.

A landmine explosion and ensuing armed militant ambush in the Jiwani neighborhoods of the Gwadar region resulted in the martyrdom of one Coast Guard member and the injuries of seven other members last week.

On February 6, two terrorist assaults in Quetta left seven persons wounded.
