KARACHI: Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) resumed its operations on December 31, 2022 after some 20 days of closure, the company stated in its notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday.

It may be recalled that the PRL went for a shut down on December 10, 2022 after it announced that it would carry out annual maintenance at the refinery. MM News has learnt that the PRL was actually not able to carry out the production as it was facing problems in opening of letters of credit for the import of crude oil, an essential for smooth operations.

The PRL went for shutdown despite the instructions of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) that the refinery should continue with its operations in the month of December. OGRA wrote a letter to the PRL at the start of the current month, after review meeting of supplies of oil in the country.

However, sources at the oil ministry had revealed that the PRL has received 70,000 MT crude oil this week and now the refinery would be resuming its production on December 31, 2022.

“Further to the announcement of December 9, 2022, regarding regeneration shutdown of refinery operations. PRL has restarted its refinery operations from December 31, 2022,” read the notice on Monday.
