KARACHI: The Supreme Court (SC) has rejected the petition of Dua Zehra’s father challenging the SHC’s decision in the Dua Zehra case, which allowed a teenage girl in Karachi to choose her own fate.
According to the details, the court disposed of the case at the request of Mehdi Kazmi’s lawyer Gibran Nasir and directed Mehdi Kazmi to approach the relevant forums.
The apex court remarked that the relevant case was not within its purview, so it could approach the appropriate forum for setting up a medical board. Hearing the Dua Zehra case, Justice Muneeb Akhtar said in his remarks that the petitioner should have approached the civil court if he wants any relief.
Justice Sajjad Ali Shah asked Mehdi Kazmi what does he want? “We are aware of your feelings. The girl has got married of her own free will. She is also entitled to it,” the judge said.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said, “You and your wife should meet the girl calmly and ask her if there is any pressure on her or not, if the girl still does not want to go with you then what will you do?”
During the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court, a conversation took place between Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Mehdi Kazmi in which Dua Zehra’s father said that we do not get married without a guardian. Justice Mohammad Ali said that there is talk that your profession and their profession are different, what will you do if the girl is not accepted even after the meeting, we cannot force the girl.
On the petition filed by Kazmi in the Supreme Court Karachi Registry, the Supreme Court, after hearing the arguments of the petitioner’s counsel, reserved its decision. It should be noted that Dua Zehra’s father had filed another petition in the Supreme Court Karachi Registry yesterday.
