KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member of National Assembly (MNA) Alamgir Khan has been booked under sedition charges in Karachi on Saturday.
According to details, the Fixit founder was booked at Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station on the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) Ashraf Jogi over deliberately maligning state institutions and higher judiciary.
The complainant said he was patrolling in Gulshan Iqbal near Aero Club ground, where objectionable sketches were embossed on the walls against the country and state’s institutions were found.
“The drawings were meant to create chaos and create uncertainty among the people and the move was deliberate,” the complainant added. Ashraf also said that he received a video and five pictures on social media showing Alamgir Khan using the spray for objectionable sketches against the state of Pakistan.
Earlier, Karachi police raided Alamgir Khan’s house in the wee hours of Saturday, however, he was not present at home. PTI leaders protested the police raid and termed police action a revengeful tactic against the party.
Following police action, PTI leaders and supporters reached Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station and submitted an application against the raid.
Strongly condemning the police raid, former federal minister for maritime affairs Ali Haider Zaidi said that the Sindh police have become a military wing of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
He said police violated the ‘sanctity of the four walls’ by entering the residence of a public representative at midnight. The PTI leader warned that the Sindh government would be held accountable soon.
Referring to the rising crime rate in the city, the former minister said that the Sindh police have failed to detain the robbers and street criminals in the port city and on the other hand the force is harassing the noble citizens.
