MANILA: An earthquake of magnitude 6.6 on the Richter Scale jolted the southern Philippines on Tuesday.
The authorities said that the earthquake rattled buildings, sending terrified locals escaping into the streets.

According to the US Geological Survey, the shallow earthquake hit the island of Mindanao in the same region where a deadly quake struck earlier in October.
Philippine authorities said they expected damage after the strong tremor, which hit near Davao City there was no tsunami threat.

USGS initially reported the quake had a magnitude of 6.8. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The area is still suffering the effects of a 6.4-magnitude quake that hit less than two weeks ago, killing at least five and damaging dozens of buildings.
