KARACHI: Following widespread public outrage on social media over viral videos showing armed men firing into the air at Sardar Khan Chandio’s bungalow in Qambar-Shahdadkot, police have arrested eight individuals for unlawful aerial firing.
The celebrations erupted after the acquittal of eight accused — including influential PPP figures — in the long-pending murder case of Umm Rabab’s family, sparking national condemnation and demands for accountability.
According to details available with MM News, the Qambar police registered FIR No. 78/2026 under Sections 337-H(2), 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code, citing public disturbance and unlawful assembly. The arrests come after viral social media footage showed armed men firing modern weapons into the air — an act widely condemned as a brazen display of impunity following the court’s verdict.
The acquittal, it may be recalled here, was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Hussain Kalor, endingn 8-year legal battle in Dadu’s Model Criminal Trial Court. Umm Rabab, the lead plaintiff and surviving family member, denounced the ruling as a “travesty of justice,” vowing to appeal and warning it emboldens “tribal chieftains to kill with impunity.”
The celebratory gunfire — occurring in the political stronghold of the accused, who are reportedly linked to the ruling PPP — has reignited national debate over feudal power, judicial integrity, and the rule of law in Sindh.
