Renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra has officially announced his upcoming film Zero Se Restart, a prequel to the critically acclaimed 12th Fail, at IIFA 2024, Indian media reported.
The film is set to release on December 13 and will feature the same cast, including Vikrant Massey, who delivered a standout performance in the lead role of 12th Fail.
12th Fail, based on Anurag Pathak’s book, tells the inspiring story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, a man who overcame extreme poverty to achieve his dream of becoming an IPS officer.
The prequel, Zero Se Restart, will explore the earlier stages of Sharma’s journey, further delving into his struggles and highlighting his resilience and determination.
On the IIFA red carpet, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, accompanied by his wife Anupama Chopra, reflected on the possibility of submitting 12th Fail for the Oscars. He revealed that awards are not his primary focus, stating, “For me, the real award is when you make a film and can say, ‘Ah, I nailed it,’ or admit, ‘That didn’t quite work.'”
12th Fail was widely praised for its portrayal of perseverance and triumph. The film not only captured the struggles of Manoj Sharma but also highlighted the pivotal role of his wife, Shraddha Joshi, in his success. Medha Shankar played the lead female role, receiving accolades for her performance.
In addition to the success of the film, 12th Fail recently topped IMDb’s list of the top 250 Indian movies of all time.
Compiled from over 8.5 million votes, the list celebrates classics from various eras, genres, and regions of Indian cinema, with 12th Fail currently holding the prestigious No. 1 spot.
