A tragic incident unfolded in Narowal on Thursday as a young man lost his life in a collision allegedly involving a police vehicle within Maryam Nawaz’s security convoy.
According to reports, 23-year-old Abu Bakar was riding a motorcycle near Chandowal when he was allegedly struck by a protocol vehicle associated with Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz.
The incident has prompted legal action, with an FIR filed at the Saddar police station in Narowal, lodged by a cousin of the deceased. The FIR details that Abu Bakar was struck by an Elite Force vehicle as the convoy headed towards Kartarpur. The collision, according to the FIR, occurred due to overtaking.
Rizwan, the cousin of the deceased, recounted that Abu Bakar was accompanied by a friend on the motorcycle, who fortunately escaped unharmed in the crash.
This tragic event echoes a similar incident in 2017, when speeding vehicles within Nawaz Sharif’s ‘homecoming’ motorcade fatally struck a nine-year-old child in Lalamusa. The child was amidst a crowd of supporters welcoming Nawaz Sharif as his motorcade passed through Lalamusa. Eyewitnesses reported that the child wandered onto the road and was initially hit by a car belonging to the Elite Force, followed by multiple vehicles without any stopping to aid the injured child.
Despite the presence of a mobile health unit accompanying the motorcade, bystanders noted that none of the vehicles halted to assess the child’s condition as he succumbed to his injuries.
