Xiaomi 18 Pro leak reveals major upgrades over 17 Pro

Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, the Xiaomi 18 Pro, is shaping up to be one of the most significant generational upgrades in the company’s Pro lineup, according to multiple leaks compiled by MM News.

Expected to launch in September 2026 — one year after the Xiaomi 17 Pro — the device reportedly brings sweeping changes to cameras, battery, design, and AI integration.

Camera: Dual 200MP Sensors Lead the Charge
The most notable upgrade comes in imaging. Tipster Digital Chat Station reports the Xiaomi 18 Pro will debut with dual 200MP rear cameras: a 200MP main sensor and a 200MP periscope telephoto unit. That’s a substantial jump from the 50MP main camera on the Xiaomi 17 Pro.

However, the telephoto approach is shifting. Both the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are tipped to use an 85mm focal length on the 200MP periscope, down from 115mm on the 17 Pro’s 50MP 5x periscope. As a result, optical zoom will likely be marketed as 3x or 3.5x instead of 5x, with “lossless” digital zoom up to 6x or 7x emphasized in marketing. The new telephoto will also support macro shooting from ∼15cm, closer than the 17 Pro Max’s 30cm.

Battery, Charging, and Build
Battery capacity is another major bump. The 18 Pro is said to pack a 7,000mAh cell or larger, up from 6,300mAh in the 17 Pro. The phone will retain wireless charging, add an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, and carry a full waterproof rating.

Design: Rear Display Grows, AI Button Added
Xiaomi appears to be doubling down on the rear display introduced with the 17 Pro series. The 18 Pro’s secondary screen will reportedly grow from 2.7 inches to 4 inches diagonally, with higher brightness, higher resolution, and large rounded corners. An “AI-powered smart window” is also in development for the rear panel, suggesting new functionality beyond notifications.

Early renders show a new hardware addition: a dedicated AI button on the side of the device. Leaks claim the button will be customizable, able to launch AI features “in any situation,” control smart home devices, and even compatible Xiaomi EVs.

Performance and Display
Under the hood, the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are expected to run Qualcomm’s unannounced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro SoC. The 18 Pro will reportedly keep a compact 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max moves to a 6.9-inch flat LIPO OLED with narrower bezels than its predecessor. Improvements to speakers and the vibration motor are also rumored.

Launch Timeline
The Xiaomi 18 series — including the base Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro, and 18 Pro Max — is expected to be unveiled in September 2026. While these renders and specs are still early and subject to change, the leaks point to Xiaomi retaining its experimental rear-display design while pushing hardware boundaries in imaging and battery tech.
