Former England captain Michael Vaughan has called the current Pakistan team the “worst” he has seen, following their historic defeat after scoring over 550 runs in the first innings.
Despite posting a massive 556, Pakistan was outplayed by England in Multan, who declared at 823/7. Pakistan then collapsed to just 220 in their second innings, handing England a commanding win by an innings and 47 runs.
“This is the worst Pakistan side I can remember. But to make 823 for seven at 5.5 runs an over, while taking few risks and looking in total control, is very special. The most impressive thing for me was the way the bowling attack combined. You could tell what everyone’s role was. And they stuck to their task gallantly and were right up for the challenge, which is exactly what Brendon McCullum wants to see,” Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph.
Meanwhile, former England star Kevin Pietersen echoed concerns raised by former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur about structural issues in Pakistani cricket. Arthur cited selection inconsistencies and a challenging environment on social media, which Pietersen agreed with based on his experiences in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Pietersen, who played for Quetta Gladiators from 2016 to 2018, observed that some players did not prioritize proper training and became overly focused on results, impacting their emotional resilience.
Pakistan will aim for a comeback as the second Test begins on October 15.
