(REUTERS): After Democrat nominee Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump in US president elections 2020, global leaders congratulated the president-elect and wished him well for the tough job ahead.
The development came after he won the state of Pennsylvania which got him 20 more electoral votes, enabling him to cross the required 270 to hit 284 votes. Vote counts took longer than in most years because states were deluged with mail-in ballots cast in record numbers by people avoid polling stations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Canadian Prime Minister
In a statement, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their election as the next President and Vice President of the United States of America.
“Canada and the United States enjoy an extraordinary relationship — one that is unique on the world stage. In a Tweet, Emmanuel Macron said, “The Americans have chosen their President. Congratulations Joe Biden and Kamala Harris! We have a lot to do to overcome today’s challenges. Let’s work together.”

Irish Prime Minister
