A hashtag of Kunan Poshpora mass rape has been trending on social media sparking concerns about why an old incident from 2014 has become viral after all these years.
February 23 marks 32 years since the Kunan Poshpora mass rape and torture incident. Since 2014, this day is observed every year on this date in 1991, at least 400 armed soldiers of four Rajputana Rifles cordoned off the twin villages of Kunan and Poshpora in Kupwara district.
During the cordon, the army personnel dragged out all the men and took them to a makeshift barn where they were tortured. They then forcibly entered the houses and raped between 23 and 100 women, including at least 3 minors. The youngest victim was 13 years old and the oldest was 80 years old.
Even today, people have not forgotten the brutal and inhumane act set against Kashmiri women:

The feminist movement all over the world has successfully tried to dust the rust, on the hinges of women rights. But, in India’s heavily militarised zone of Kashmir, the women have been ceased to be considered as “humans”.#KunanPoshporaMassRape pic.twitter.com/v9mtds8OjB

Today marks 32 years since the Kunan Poshpora mass rape and torture incident.
For Kashmiri women, the denial of rapes committed by soldiers in Kashmir is illustrative of a long line of violent attempts that aim to protect the image of the Indian state.https://t.co/EYzIP4prtj

Beyond a prolonged legal battle between courts and street demonstrators and human rights, organizations is an attempt by Kashmiri women and those in solidarity across the world to etch this date — February 23 — in History

Kashmiri women, have been portrayed by media and writers, as victims who have suffered only through the loss of their men, or resisted only by supporting their men.#KunanPoshporaMassRape pic.twitter.com/DgsVb7Kg33
